Founded in 2012, The Brew runs three buildings in a tight Shoreditch cluster around Old Street, serving freelancers, startups, scale-ups and enterprise teams across hot desks, coworking, private offices, managed floors, virtual offices and event space. Teams from two people upward are catered for, to 100 at two of the buildings and 150 at 2 Westland Place, with Eagle House on City Road, 2 Westland Place and 12 Westland Place all within a few minutes' walk of each other and of Old Street station.
The origin is a complaint rather than a business plan. The founder kept seeing creative businesses stuck in poor workspace, or paying far more than they needed on the assumption that decent London space had to be expensive, and set out to prove otherwise. The buildings carry that preference for character over gloss. Eagle House was a 1920s dance hall and keeps its original features, 12 Westland Place leans on Shoreditch's warehouse legacy, with exposed brickwork and Crittall windows in geometric steel frames, and 2 Westland Place takes its cue from Soho townhouses, with a fifteen-person boardroom, six individual pods, three phone booths and a four-person podcast room.
Members at the other two buildings get meeting room access at Eagle House, and meeting rooms and phone booths come free rather than metered. Coworking runs on a two-month minimum and office terms vary by building, with 24/7 access for resident members, secure bike storage and dog-friendly private offices. Waste runs through First Mile on a zero-to-landfill basis with only food separated, tea and coffee are Fairtrade throughout, and the Westland Place building holds an A+ energy rating. Named members include FlavourWorks and CyberOwl, with WarnerMedia and Morgan Sindall among the logos the company publishes, across sectors it describes as running from AI to architecture and consulting to content creation.
